12th September 2007

Both Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire County Councils are now publicly committed to a safe crossing using a bridge over the new road. Most recently, at the Leighton Linslade Transport Strategy Meeting on 26th July 2007 officers and councillors publicly promised that if the bridge were not to be built, in the short term, a cycle- and foot-path would be made from Wing to Linslade using a footpath bridge which has already been built over the bypass.

Bedfordshire County Council has applied for funding to build the new bridge, from the Communities Infrastructure Fund and the Growth Areas Fund. It is also in the process of applying for planning permission.

Buckinghamshire County Council, for its part, has engaged contractors to build a new foot- and cycle-path from Wing to the roundabout.

We remain dismayed that the new road could be designed and built without a safe crossing at this busy junction, but we are now optimistic that a solution will be found. The timescale is now the main issue.

Please continue to apply pressure on the councillors from both County Councils.
