9th April 2008 - it's confirmed that Beds CC has allocated £600,000 from its Growth Area Funding to build the bridge. Design work is already under way. WE'VE WON! No thanks to Bucks CC, who finally got the questionnaire (designed to support Beds.' bid for the cash) out to most of Wing in March, and to the forgotten streets somewhat later - all well after the GAF allocation had been decided.
Bucks CC's Path to Nowhere will soon have a destination, thanks to Beds CC.
16th January - the questionnaire is delayed until mid-February, it's being printed at the moment.
15th January 2008 - where's the questionnaire? The Path to Nowhere is coming along, but it still looks a few weeks away from completion. Meanwhile, Val Letheren will be at the Village Hall tonight for the A418 Alternatives Report meeting, so there may be a chance to get a question or two in...
5th December 2007 - Bucks CC will be circulating the much-delayed questionnaire, two copies to each household in Wing, in the second week of January 2008. The purpose of the questionnaire is to provide backing for the Beds CC bid for funds to build the bridge.
30th November 2007 - the promised (and welcome) improvements to the footpath between Wing and Wing Hill roundabout are underway. However, without the bridge, it'll be a "path to nowhere".
13th September 2007 - Click here to read the latest statements from the two county councils.
12th September 2007 - The bypass is about to open, and no bridge yet...however, there has been a lot of progress since 21st April. Click here to read where we are with the campaign.
21st April 2007 - Over 100 local residents, councillors and the South West Bedfordshire MP, Andrew Selous, today launched the campaign for a bridge at the Wing Hill junction of the A418/A505 with a demonstration of cyclists and pedestrians. Protestors of all ages walked, cycled and caught the bus to the site, and then took part in two circular walks/rides around the roundabout, as well as forming a human bridge. Motorists waited good-humouredly when the issue was explained to them (click for leaflet), and apart from a touch of sun-burn a good time was had by all. One demonstrator has blogged the event.
